Be FIERCE with your INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS and SELF-PUBLISH!

The #1 Reason I listed in my previous blog 11 BIG REASONS TO SELF-PUBLISH INSTEAD OF SIGNING WITH A PUBLISHER was to Keep Your Intellectual Property Rights on every book (or piece of content) you write/create.

So, why is that so important? Why must you be FIERCE in today's publishing world when it comes to retaining your Intellectual Property (IP) Rights?

First, let's define INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) RIGHTS ...

And I'm not giving you the legalize of this (as I'm not an attorney), I'm giving you the straight talk version, a definition we can all understand quickly.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) RIGHTS is your ownership of every single piece of content (i.e. book, social media post, meme, flyer, offer, idea/concept, manuscript, film treatment, etc.) you write/create. Meaning ... that if said property/content/idea is sold, YOU and YOU ALONE own all rights and thus are entitled to and receive all moneys from said sale.

With that working definition, think about in our current world how books can become movies. Can become the basis for a streamed television series. Can become the story behind some hot new video game.

Now you feeling why I'm advising you to BE FIERCE WITH YOUR IP RIGHTS and SELF-PUBLISH?!

When you simply pay someone like me (and my LetLoveGlow Author Services) to help you write and publish the books of your heart, YOU keep all your IP RIGHTS, meaning YOU get all the royalties and income streams possible from the story/content you've created. 100% ownership is yours!

If you choose to use a "publisher" (traditional or boutique) instead of a "service provider" (like LetLoveGlow Author Services), you would forfeit a percentage of your ownership of your IP RIGHTS and thus your money earned. And here's the kicker ... most of the time, in most standard publishing contracts, that means not just for the book version but for all additional "subsidiary rights" that are sold - i.e. film and television, gaming, etc.

It's really this simple right here:

At the end of the day, DO YOU WANT TO MAKE ALL THE MONEY FROM YOUR IDEAS/STORIES/BOOKS or DO YOU WANT TO SHARE IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE?

This is truly the heart of why I decided to create a company like LetLoveGlow Author Services. When you begin, as I did, in the traditional publishing world (with all the Big NYC Publishers), and you see how unfriendly those contracts are when it comes to an author's INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS, you just don't want to do business that way ... not in the world of internet streaming that we're now learning how to live in and create in.

Let me know below what questions you have, and I'll answer them or find answers for you!
